Found this article extremely interesting (by one my favourite authors, William Grabe - has anyone read his book on Teaching and Researching Reading - highly recommended if you intend to attempt personal research in this area) , especially in the light of systemic grammar and discourse analysis - for those interested in reading abt how the genre approach has been adapted to teaching reading, read and we can discuss - this is an area I am personally passionate about, especially in the practical implementation in the classroom.

Much has been said abt genre approach in teaching writing, but I think exploration of this in teaching reading is still at its infancy (especially in the Singapore context) though the revised EL syllabus is in its 4th year of implementation. Remember what we discussed in Dr Richard's class about the paradigm shift? Not too sure how far educators (in Singapore) have embarked on this though....
